Porcelain veneers are among the best options today for correcting chipped, cracked, severely discolored, or crooked teeth. After one or two visits to a dental clinic, you’ll have a brighter, natural-looking smile instead of the “embarrassed” facial expression you’ve had for a long time.
Dental veneers, sometimes called dental laminates, are very thin shells of tooth-colored material that are placed on your teeth, which may be severely discolored, crooked, disproportionate, gapped, or structurally damaged. In addition to porcelain, the composite resin is also used to create veneers or laminates. Composite veneers are usually placed directly on the teeth, while porcelain veneers are made in a dental laboratory. Both are effective solutions for severe cases of discoloration and dental problems. However, porcelain veneers are much more expensive than composite veneers. Aside from being more expensive, porcelain takes much more time to fabricate than composite. Porcelain laminates can cost between $900 and $2,500 per tooth, while composite veneers are $250 per tooth. In a single appointment with the dentist, you can go home with a new set of teeth already in place with composite veneers. If you choose the other option, you will need 2 to 3 visits before you have better-looking teeth, but porcelain has quite significant advantages over composite laminates. Laminates that use porcelain have more predictable and better-looking results than those made with composite resin. Because porcelain laminates are made in a lab rather than directly in your mouth, the dentist and lab technician work together and can take time to match the fit, color, and overall appearance of each piece. Composite bonding must be performed by a highly-skilled dentist to achieve perfect results in a patient in just one visit. Porcelain is almost impossible to discolor. Its stain resistance is one of the main reasons why people still prefer it to composite bonding, even though the price is quite high. Composite resin is very susceptible to stains and may require frequent visits to the dentist.
